Puffy Eye Prevention Tips

Be sure to get enough sleep at night. One explanation for puffy eyes is that you’re simply not getting enough sleep, or the quality of the sleep you’re getting is inadequate. Bags under the eyes is a frequent symptom of sleep deprivation.

Hydrate! A significant number of women inclined to puffy eyes are normally dehydrated. If you have puffy eyes, you probably need to drink more water. Aim for a gallon a day or at least 3 quarts. Drink water or herbal tea. Sweetened, flavored or carbonated drinks aren’t very hydrating. And if you’re a coffee drinker or drink alcohol regularly, you need an additional glass of water for each glass of wine or cup of coffee.

Change your sleeping position. It’s not uncommon to have puffy eyes in the morning. One explanation for this can be that when you are lying down for several hours in a horizontal position and then stand up to a vertical position, the fluid that is residing under your eyes is abruptly being pulled down by gravity. This swelling should subside before long. In order to prevent waking up with morning puffy eyes, is to raise your head while you sleep so that the fluid is not as drastically drawn down as you get up.

Lessen your salt intake. A high ingestion of salt may be causing your body to retain fluid. Try using less salt and see if that reduces your swollen eyes.

Try a diuretic, such as the juice of cabbage or cranberry. These vegetables are diuretics, which will help your body rid itself of some surplus fluid in your tissues. Other natural diuretics include the herbs uva ursi and golden rod.

Give yourself adequate exercise. Exercise improves circulation, which will stimulate your body to move fluid through your body, rather than letting it accumulate.
